General Information

Cellist Cecilia Huerta-Lauf will perform Sunday, August 25 at the Shrewsbury-Windle House National Historic Landmark at 301 W 1st St.  The event also features light hors d’oeuvres and refreshments. Two performances will be given, one at 2 pm and the next at 4 pm.

Described as “an assured soloist” with “fearless technique,” Dr. Cecilia Huerta-Lauf brings passion and heart to her performances as an accomplished cellist. She is the director, co-founder & cellist of NouLou Chamber Players; and interim with the Louisville Orchestra. She also served as President of the Chamber Music Society of Louisville. A native of Dickson, Tennessee, she made her solo debut with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra at age 16.

Dr. Huerta-Lauf has enjoyed tenures with groups such as the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the Discovery Ensemble, the Florida Grand Opera, the Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra & founding String Quartet, and as the founding administrative director & principal cellist of the Boston Latin-American Orchestra.

In 2012, Cecilia was a semi-finalist in the Carlos Prieto International Cello Competition. Her degrees include pre-college at Vanderbilt University, B.M. from DePaul University in Chicago, M.M. from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, and her D.M.A. from the University of Miami, Florida.

An orchestra played at the 1849 housewarming party given by the Shrewsbury family shortly after the house was built.  The home has played host to numerous musicians ever since.  John and Ann Windle were avid music lovers and invited musician friends to play in the home as often as possible. The Windle’s rare 18th-century music stand designed for a trio will hold Dr. Huerta-Lauf’s musical score.
