Saturday, September 21st | 1-4pm

The Southern Indiana Folk School @ The Jefferson County History & Art Center (615 W. 1st Street, Madison, IN 47250)
German Straw Stars: A mainstay in German homes and at winter markets, the symmetry and glistening gold of a rye straw star is a delight for young and old to make.
Utilizing no special skills but some manual dexterity for working with lightweight natural straw and thread, you will create a finished star or two. Additionally, you will take home a kit including enough rye straw and accessories to make quite a variety of stars on your own.
Instructor Bio:
Our Instructor, Sarah Thompson, is sculptor and lifelong fiber artist with a can-do attitude. A resident of Switzerland County with a love of history, she was inspired to demonstrate the nearly lost art of straw plaiting at Venoge, Vevay’s living history homestead. Sarah is a member of the National Associationmof Wheat Weavers . We are thrilled to have her share her knowledge and skill with us.
