You'll learn:
- Sourdough Starter Maintenance: Understand what a sourdough starter is and how to maintain it.
- Fermentation and Proofing: Discover how these processes improve your bread's texture and flavor.
- Shaping and Scoring: See how to shape boule(round loaf) and score it for your desired look.

- A digital food scale
- A digital food scale (If you don’t have one, some will be available to purchase at class for $25)
For baking the day after class:
Make sure you have high quality parchment paper and some sort of pot with a lid that you can bake your bread in the next day.
A round cast iron Dutch oven 6 quart or larger or aluminum roaster pan will both work well.
This is an awesome one from Amazon. It’s only $35. Plus it’s lightweight, non-stick and bakes beautiful sourdough bread!! It’s her new favorite pan! https://a.co/d/26QHLuH
You can use also a cast iron Dutch oven if you have one. A 6 quart or larger is ideal. A 5 quart will work but your dough might be a little squished. (Please note that you DON’T need to bring the parchment paper and baking pot to class.) You'll talk about the the sourdough mindset and snack on sourdough bread and sourdough chocolate chip cookies+ other snacks.
You'll take home:
- Dough in a tea towel and colander to bake the next day
- An Aliquot jar (dough clock)
- A printed workbook with the recipe and instructions
- A container of sourdough starter (that is 230+ years old from SanFrancisco)
- A digital course with lessons and video tutorials via email
- An option to join the Beginner’s Sourdough Workshop private Facebook group
- And finally the knowledge to bake sourdough all on your own over and over again which is priceless!
There will also be a few fun beautiful sourdough tools for sale during class. To purchase these items, Chillspice accepts cash (preferably), Venmo, and PayPal.
